Stoke have made an offer for the Birmingham goalkeeper believed to be in the region of £4 million.
The two parties are in the middle of negotiations over the player and a final deal resulting in Butland's loan back to Birmingham is on the books.
Also rumoured is the possibility of Ryan Shotton moving in the opposite direction on loan for the remainder of the season if the deal should go through.
