In this thrilling game to start the festive month of December the valiant home team put on another competitive display taking the league leaders right to the end but Manchester United came out victorious and with the three points.

United responded quickly with a thirteenth minute equalizer with Anderson scoring a low shot towards Federici's near post.
Just two minutes later united were awarded a fair penalty with Jay Tabb clattering into Johnny Evans who was facing away from goal with Rooney calmly placing the resulting penalty in the net.
Another goal followed in the nineteenth minute coming from a header hit home by Adam Le Fondre from a Nicky Shorey corner again revealing the frailties within United's defence.
Reading took the lead four minutes later with yet another Shorey corner into the box with the centre-back Sean Morrison successfully challenging Evans in the air to the ball and heading home.

On the half hour mark United hit an equaliser with Patrice Evra's cut back to an unmarked Rooney in the box for a simple slot home from 10 yards.
Sir Alex Ferguson made the change of Rafael for Chris Smalling with the Brazilian not looking best pleased with being replaced.
At the thirty-fifth minute Rooney created what would be the winning goal setting up Van Persie for a simple sweeping finish.
The second half proved a much more tame affair with a minimal amount of chances created by both sides. Reading did make a late push with another Sean Morrison header being pushed over the bar by Anders Lindegaard and another header placed over from the resulting corner. United managed to see the result out and maintained the lead at the summit of the table while also managing to extend their lead to three points.
